One of important questions you can and should ask yourself is:

“Are you honest with yourself?”

Honesty and integrity are wonderful features, which are worth having in your character, especially if you want to be a great person. However, neither the first nor the second one are enough, if you share them and show them only to others.

You should be your best friend – I think that this is quite obvious and makes sense to anyone who did some soul searching. It is not so in much too many cases and from much too many reasons, though. One of those reasons is that we often lie to ourselves, sometimes every step of the way, each and every day. Sometimes those lies are there to help us forget about all the “big” things, to make them smaller, to minimize their importance in our lives. However, there are times when we lie about who we really are, deep down, under all the layers of beliefs imposed on us or even voluntarily accepted by ourselves that tell us who we are, who we are supposed to be, who we are allowed to be.

Where is a place for honesty here? For being true to oneself? Those features land on the far end of our priority list in such situations. From my perspective, though, there is nothing more important and more valuable, nothing giving more joy in everyday life than being the real, the true you – without the fear, without the guilt, without the need to run away, without the blush showing up every time someone “catches” you on being the person who you want to be, the person you truly are.

As Richard Bach stated – “Your only obligation in life is to be true to yourself.”

So be true to yourself, be YOU. It is really worth it! Even if it’s not easy!
