What are you ready to change?

When we move towards the life we want to lead and we dream of having, we are often faced with a situation of change. It doesn’t matter what or who has to change – our environment, our job, our loved ones or we ourselves. Change is necessary, because without it the current situation cannot become something different, something we desire and strive to achieve.

However, how often, even with the strongest desire and need to change our lives for the better… we are not ready to make certain things happen, not ready to change things that we know need to change and not ready to change ourselves?

I believe that we all know the answer to that one in some respect. Do we ask it often enough, especially to understand the message behind it, though? I’m not so sure. I can see on my own example, that even with a deep set desire to reach some goals and make some things a reality, I often tend to stick with what I know and used to do for months or even years. Even, when I know it can’t work, because it hasn’t yet. My actions stay the same, my choices don’t shift and being aware of the fact that results I want won’t come from repeating the same patterns over and over again doesn’t do a thing.

It would seem that we all know that things need to change so that our lives and results can, right? It is so obvious. And yet so many of us get deceived by this somehow or simply deny the existence of this little concept. That’s why I think it’s useful and crucial for our success to ask ourselves daily these few questions I posted below – to remind what is important, what we are ready to do and to change.

  • Why do I want to reach this goal?
  • Am I ready to change things that I know I should?
  • What am I ready to change?
  • What am I ready to give up?

Great examples that can serve as perfect illustrations of the need to be willing to change are related to releasing excess weight and to increasing income.

In the first situation, we know that people want to lose some pounds or kilograms for whatever reason. They know they need to choose healthier foods, eat smaller portions or move more. But it doesn’t come easy. They are able to control their old habits in the beginning of this journey, maybe for a day or two, a week, or even a month. But then they get back to old, familiar choices, because it’s easier and because they are actually not ready to make changes that they logically know are necessary. They are not at the point where resigning from daily ice cream, something sweet or salty, another soda or maybe additional portion during dinner is an option they are ready for.

The same is with making more money. People often say they want to earn more, but they are not ready to make this happen – they are not willing to work harder to get a promotion or maybe some sort of a bonus, they don’t want to start a new project that they know can bring in the cash they want. They prefer to do what’s comfortable, known to them and easy, like spending the evening in front of TV or worrying about the money they want (and could get if they were ready to make a change).

And yes, there are tons of reasons why we go back to what we find safe and familiar, but being aware of this lack of willingness to change is very helpful and can save us tons of frustration.

Of course, I’m not saying that fun, sweets or free time are wrong in any way, because I know how crucial it is for the overall success to enjoy oneself. But I also know that if you want to achieve something – it is worth putting in the necessary amount of effort, time, money and energy into it. If you don’t, reaching your goals and succeeding might take a long while or land in the ‘Impossible Land’.
And I guess all of what I’m writing is an obvious thing, but I do also think that it’s a good idea to remind (and be reminded of) topics like that once in a while.

So..

What are you ready to change or give up to get to your ideal life, to reach your goals and make your dreams a reality?
