Some time ago (well, arounda a year or so
) I watched a few videos from a challenge around the topic of time management, motivation and productivity. In on of them the author (nope, I don’t remember who it was unfortunately) asked an interesting and quite visually appealing question, which can be summed up to this:
How would the movie of your life look like?
To be more precise, the author asked his viewers how they would behave, if every single day for 30 days they were followed by a filming crew creating a documentary of their life, so that they could show it later on to their family, friends and fans. What would their decisions and actions be? What would they say? What would they choose? What would they focus their efforts? And simply – how would they spend their time? It made me think, a lot, and proved to be a powerful motivating tool, even though it is a simple concept.
And recently, when I was going through some notes from that time – the question jumped at me and I started to wonder…
- What would I be doing, if there was a filming crew following my every step – so that they could share their movie with the world and my dearest ones?
- What kind of person would I love to be and become?
- Is there something I’d be doing differently? better? more often?
- And on the other hand – are there things I would do rarely? less? not at all?
And I don’t mean acting just for show, to pretend to be someone I am not. I mean this deep, inner need of being the best version of me.
Today, I direct those questions at you.
I know some of us need all sorts of external motivation (on top of internal one) to actually start doing things that are important. There is also the need of acknowledgment from others that we did good, completed the task, finished it and crossed out from our to-do list. I think that such a filming crew in your mind can become a strong enough impulse to push you towards the things you want to do, but find it difficult to motivate yourself (be it due to fear or procrastination), give you something to think about and open not only your eyes, but also your heart and soul. It can help you get out of the ‘stuck zone’, move past the deadlock you might have found yourself in, kick you in the proverbial butt
So, try this idea, test it for a few days and let me know how it went – what did you manage to do, understand, observe, when you consciously put behind your back a bunch of people who admire you and watch your every step simply to learn as much as they can.
What would you do differently?
What would you keep on doing?
What would you choose so that everyone could benefit the most?
